“Vasil Levski” Airport – Sofia joined the “Sunflower” global initiative to support people with hidden disabilities

“Vasil Levski” Airport – Sofia is now part of the global “Sunflower” initiative aimed at supporting people with hidden disabilities, the airport’s press center announced.

The announcement says that Sofia Airport thus becomes the first in Bulgaria to join the initiative, and ranks among over 325 airports around the world, part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network.

The press center adds that the “Sunflower” program uses green badges, bracelets or badges with a sunflower symbol as an unobtrusive sign of hidden disabilities, including autism, dementia, anxiety disorders and others. Upon recognition of the symbol, airport staff may provide additional assistance, including more time, clearer instructions, or assistance in going through security.

Joining the initiative is realized with the partnership of the “Autism Today” association, whose activity is aimed at providing social services for children and young people with autism. Experts from the organization conducted on-site training for airport employees.

The initiative’s badges are available to all passengers with hidden disabilities and can be obtained on request from the Security desks in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
